Privacy Policy

The short version: we collect what Yard-Lift needs to connect neighbors and businesses, we don't sell it or track you around the web, and you can delete it anytime. Here's the full version.

1. What we collect

An account email and password (or Google sign-in), and optionally a display name and photo. If you fill in your profile, we also store your first/last name, phone number, and ZIP code. Homeowners posting a request provide an address, photos, and a description of the work; the address is kept private and is only ever used to place a randomized, approximate area on the public map, never the exact location. Businesses registering a profile provide a business name, description, phone, location, and optional logo. A business posting a Deal Day provides a date, a general area (city, state, and optionally a neighborhood name), and the services, prices, and capacity being offered — this is business-declared public information about where they're working, not a private homeowner address. A business posting a Service Plan similarly provides a plan name, price, how often it renews (every 2 weeks or month), and a list of what's included — again business-declared public information, not tied to any specific homeowner until one claims it. Messages (and any photos attached to them) between a homeowner and a business are stored so both sides can see the conversation history.

2. What we don't collect

We don't use advertising trackers or cookies to follow you around the web. We use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics (Vercel Analytics) to see aggregate traffic and error monitoring (Sentry) to catch bugs — neither sets a tracking cookie or builds a profile of you. We never see your card number — Stripe handles that directly for business memberships, and Yard-Lift only ever receives a subscription status back.

3. Unclaimed business listings

Some business listings aren't submitted by the business at all — we add a basic "Unclaimed" listing ourselves (name, category, phone number, and any public email or website) from publicly available information, so homeowners can find local pros who haven't joined Yard-Lift yet. This is compiled information about a business, not personal data collected from an individual, and an unclaimed listing never shows a rating or review beyond what's genuinely earned on Yard-Lift. If you're the owner of a business shown this way, you can claim it directly from the listing, or contact us to have it corrected or removed.

4. Who else sees it

A request's photos, headline, and story are public on the map, shown alongside a soft, shaded approximate area rather than a precise pin — same as a business's public directory profile. None of your contact details are shared with a business by default. Your street address and phone number are never shared automatically under any circumstance — the only way a business ever learns either is if you choose to share them yourself in a message. Your email follows the same default-private rule, with one explicit exception: checking "let businesses see my email" when posting a request opts it in for businesses that are either on an active membership or still within their free-first-job trial. We work with a small number of service providers to run Yard-Lift: Firebase/Google Cloud (accounts, database, file storage, hosting infrastructure), Stripe (business membership billing), Resend (transactional emails like new-lead and new-message notifications), Vercel (hosting and cookieless analytics), and Sentry (error monitoring). None of them are permitted to use your data for their own purposes.

5. Text message (SMS) notifications

Homeowners and businesses can optionally opt in to receive text messages about activity on their own account — a new nearby request, a reply to a request, a new message, or a reminder to leave a review. This is a separate, unchecked-by-default checkbox next to where you provide your phone number (on a request's contact info, or a business's profile) — providing a phone number alone does not opt you in to texts. Message frequency varies based on your account's activity — there's no fixed schedule, and a month with no relevant activity means no messages at all. Message and data rates may apply, and every message includes instructions to reply STOP to opt out at any time. Your phone number and SMS opt-in status are never shared with, or sold to, any third party for their own marketing purposes — we use Twilio solely to deliver these messages on our behalf, the same way we use Resend to deliver email. These texts come from (415) 707-3512 — that number can't receive calls or replies (other than STOP/HELP), so use the contact page below for anything else.

6. How long we keep it

Your account, requests, business listing, and profile stay until you delete them. Messages, reviews, and sponsorship records tied to a completed interaction are kept as a permanent record for the other person involved — deleting your account removes everything you directly own, but doesn't reach into someone else's copy of a shared conversation or a review already left on a business profile.

7. Your controls

You can edit your profile at any time from your dashboard. You can permanently delete your account — including your requests, business listing, and profile, and any active membership is canceled immediately — from the "Danger zone" on your dashboard. For anything else (a data export, a correction, a question about this policy), reach out via the contact page below.

8. Children's privacy

Yard-Lift isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

9. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Continuing to use Yard-Lift after a change means you accept the updated policy.
